THE LAST WRINKLE IN BOTOX

A new form of topical Botox may just take the sting out of the botox
doctor’s office visit, by removing the need for painful injections.
But don’t get too excited quite yet since it still needs government
approval.  However, we’re told the studies look promising.
Revance Therapeutics is trying to gain FDA approval for the Botox gel
to be used around  the crow’s feet.

“The results aren’t as dramatic as the injections but it’s still pretty significant,” says Dr.
Fredric Brandt
who splits his time between offices in Miami and New
York. “The topical botox is very effective around the eyes.”  And for
those who prefer the natural look, it could be the perfect weapon to
the “stripped-of-expression-Stepford-stare,” since it still leaves
some squint lines when one smiles.
Brandt, a dermatologist to the rich and famous, is one of the doctors
involved in the nationwide studies.  The procedure is quite simple.
A patient comes into the office and the physician applies less than a
half teaspoon of gel around the eyes.  After 15 minutes it’s wiped
off and takes effect within a couple of days.  “It lasts about the
same amount of time as the Botox injections,” says Brandt, who
believes people who are adverse to needles and/or bruise easily will
embrace the gel.
More than 200 patients across the country are taking part in the
study, which is entering its final stage.  It won’t go before the
FDA for at least another year.
