Is the cost of your laser treatment simply making you ill? Or is it the weekday recovery that does you in? Think you can do it yourself? Well it seems pretty soon you can. The FDA
recently approved a home laser treatment designed to treat fine lines. The mini version of a fractional laser is said to be safe for all skin types. Dermatologist Dr. Fred Brandt did the clinical studies on the device and talked with Beauty Undercover about the findings.
Beauty Undercover: This is a big step?
Dr. Fred Brandt: Yes it is. The fraxel at home is going to be one of the most significant steps forward in all these home devices.
BU: In what way?
FD: It’s been tested in the periorbital lines (crow’s feet) and the results after two weeks are pretty significant.
BU: How is it different than a laser treatment at a doctor’s office?
FB: It’s a home version of the fraxel laser that’s able to penetrate as deep as the office version except that you’re covering one percent of surface area rather than ten percent or higher in a doctor’s office. So that means it’s very safe to use at home. There is minimal redness or anything of that nature. So if you use it every night eventually you’re going to get the same results of a fraxel treatment you’d get in the office.
BU: Are you surprised that this home device works so well?
FB: I am. I’ve been using it on my self.
BU: And it’s great? What does it do exactly?
FB: It helps with improvement of the texture of the skin and lines and wrinkles.
The home fractional laser made by Johnson & Johnson and Palomar Medical Technologies is due out sometime next year.
