HOME HAIR REMOVAL

EPILADUNot since shoulder pads and leggings has a trend from the 1980’s been so ripe for a comeback.  Three decades after the Epilady hit the market  it’s back in vogue.  Short of laser treatments or salon appointments for waxing, there is nothing better for hair removal.   And, of course, there’s the convenience of being able to use this device in your own home!

Unlike shaving, where hair grows back immediately, Epilady stretches the time between growth cycles.  Certain experts recommend it as the only means of hair removal (aside from shaving) between sessions of laser treatments.  Not to mention there’s a new and improved version, which is kinder and gentler than the one we all knew back in the days of disco.  (The old Epilady kind of hurt!)

The company, which has been bought and sold over the past few decades, has actually improved the technology of the Epilady.  Ironically, though, customers who love the original device (where coils grabbed the hair at the root – think of a set of tweezers on a rotating cylinder) only want that specific one.  “We found some of the classic original models from the eighties,” said Amir Abileah of Epilady. “We put them up on our site and they sold out!”

I am one of those die hard Epi fanatics. My friends think that I am some sort of masochist and shamelessly refer to it as “The Ripper”. Who cares what they think? I love the thing and have probably saved thousands in waxing since I have been faithful to my “Little Ripper” since 1987!! When they went out of business, I bought the last 3 units I could find. I still have one unused “Ripper” and have dreaded the day that I would be without one. I use it on my legs, arms and underarms. When the hair grows in, it’s barely visible and soft and I am a hairy dark haired gal. Believe it or not, after 20+ years, I think it feels good. Recently I bought some new Epi product on line that can be used on facial hair and bikini. It appears to be designed like the new fangled Epilady. It hasn’t arrived yet, but I’m excited for one that can be used for bikini too.
For all but the bikini, it has been my only means of hair removal for 23 years. I am so excited that I will no longer be dreading the day that my favorite beauty item stops working and there are no more waiting in the wings. Welcome back baby.
Ps. My 70 year old mother is another member of the Epi cult.

Thanks Julie for mentioning the unit that can remove facial hair. As I was reading the original post, I was wondering if it was suitable for that purpose. I’ll be on the look out for it.
