The Beverly Hills chef, Brooke Peterson is giving Beauty Undercover tips on what to eat over Thanksgiving and what to stay away from. Below are four tips to prevent overeating followed by a list of good lower fat substitutes.
1. DO NOT GO TO PARTIES HUNGRY. There is a reason alcoholics don’t leave rehab and go to bars…its just too damn hard! If you treat party food like a meal then you will consume more calories than anything else that you do this holiday season. Those mini quiches, sliders, and cheese things are around 100 calories a pop and if you use them to fill up for dinner you will have blown through your calories for the day or the next few days! Eat a healthy meal at your own casa and then you can TASTE whatever you want at the soiree.
2. LOW CAL COCKTAILS. Sometimes the only way to get through the holidays is with a stiff cocktail, but do yourself a favor and find a low calorie one that you like. I love a good wine spritzer; half the calories and the water in it helps avoid hangovers.
3. WEAR TIGHT JEANS. Always wear you skinny jeans because the humiliation of having to undo your top button will usually keep you from going for another serving!
Embrace substitutes. Below is a list of seven:
1. Load up on veggies first.
2. Pretzels Instead of chips
3. Mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes.
4. Instead of the traditional candied yams, you can serve baked yams with chopped pecans and a sprinkle of brown sugar.
5. Try a homemade healthier peach or apple crisp with brown sugar and cloves, instead of a store bought apple pie.
6. Adding fresh herbs to your dishes will add tons of flavor without adding extra calories.
7. Whole wheat everything; stuffing, bread, etc. If it’s white don’t even look at it!
At first, I laughed over WEAR TIGHT JEANS, but on second thought, that’s the smartest tip I’ve ever read! Happy Thanksgiving!
those are great tips ~ thank you!
Ok these are very helpful tips, however, when you go somewhere where your host has spent hours and days in the kitchen you try not undoing your pant top for the minute. Also if you only indulge this day then your doing really well and shouldn’t have to worry about the top of your jeans……… The half water wine tip really is a good one for people 24-7. what a smart way to drink and still stay aware……. You guys rock and keep the information coming. I wish more people would give comments as to what they are thinking…..!!!!!!!! Happy T Day to all
Great tips, thank you! Also have found that eating hard boiled eggs before an event fills my tummy and I just need to taste the party food. I agree with Denise. If my host or hostess has taken the time and effort to prepare the food, I show my appreciation by enjoying a bit of everything (not so much if party has been catered) And I can spend all night sipping on water with lemon or lime. Enjoy your Thanksgiving all.
i just had to respond…how can you water down good wine? if it’s worth the calories to drink it, drink it. if not, drink water. or do what i do…one glass of wine, one glass of water. keeps you hydrated and hangover-free. on the food front, don’t we eat healthy all week so we can enjoy the yummy food when it’s available? eat fruits, veggies and lean protein during the week and you can enjoy the fun stuff when it’s around…
I love these tips! Brooke Peterson is on Private Chefs of Beverly Hills, right?. She looks great, I’ll take her tips anytime if I can look like her! Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!
