THE MAKEUP FREE EXPERIMENT

Would you go without makeup and stop shaving your legs for a year? Phoebe Baker Hyde, 38, from Brookline,  Massachusetts, threw away all of her make-up, cut off her long strawberry blonde  hair and stopped shaving her legs in a bid to feel more liberated.  Describing her daily routine during the 12  month-long experiment on the Katieshow she  said: ‘I did what a man would do. Put on deodorant. Put on a little gel and head  out the door.

Describing how her make-up free experiment  changed her outlook, Ms Hyde writes: ‘When I look in the mirror, I don’t see  wrinkles, anxiety, zits, or exhaustion, although they are all there.  ‘Instead, I see a face, a person, a  personality, a life. If someone asked me if I felt beautiful I would have to  answer honestly: yes.’  She admits that the one item she does miss is  her under eye concealer.

I would do it in a heart beat. However with that said people need make up for different reasons.. Support cosmetics companies.. Cover scars, or the good old fusion need for inner beauty. But me give me areas onto go “free” awesome. I suppose I would see shower ethereal friends and family…

Beauty products are such a big part of my everyday routine that I can’t imagine doing this. I’m really interested in reading more about this experiment!

I like her better in her “after” picture!! I think she looks healthier.

  6. Bobbie Crippen says:

She does look better in her no makeup look, but beleive me, I DO NOT… I could never ever do this.

I agree with some of the ladies above . . . I could NEVER do this. My beauty routine does not enslave me–it gives me time to change my look, play with color and different products, and ultimately feel better about mysef. I am sorry that men don’t have the chance to do this! She does look better and healthier with makeup, so why give it up?

  8. Judy A says:

Someone would have to pay me to do this, big time!

  9. Kim says:

    BRAVO!

    she looks great
I go to work without makeup sometimes, I feel good, but other women are not always nice about it
(you look tired. are you feeling OK?)

Maybe if someone paid me to write a book about it, I would do it regularly

I could do with a little less makeup, but I am addicted to beauty products and trying new products. I would look and feel crappy if I didn’t have some coverage, it give me confidence sad to say.
