TIME’S MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET

TIME Magazine sized up contenders by looking at their global impact on social media and their overall ability to drive news.  For its Third Annual unranked roundup, model/author/host, Chrissy Teigen, was chosen for her accessibility and ability to be “real.”  Katy Perry offers another version of real — during a 96-hour livestream on YouTube — and Kim Kardashian-West shares just about everything she wants us to see.  Rihanna won our applause by taking on body-shamers, we were intrigued by Iraqi-American beauty blogger and makeup mogul, Huda Kattan, who peddles her beauty line in interesting venues, ranging from Dubai vending machines to Sephora stores worldwide.  Its no surprise that best-selling author, J.K. Rowling appeared, but 16-year-old “nugg-ernut,” Cater Wilkerson, shocked us with his pleas for chicken nuggets (reaching nearly 3.7 million people!).  Canadian model and YouTube star, Gigi Gorgeous, joined this year’s ranks, as did Joanne The Scammer aka Branden Miller.  Korean boy-band, BTS, entertained us and we learned how to lip-synch with Baby Ariel’s (aka Ariel Martin) Musical.ly app.

 

TREND ALERT: THE WARRIOR CHEST PLATE!

Lena Dunham has just joined the “warrior chest plate” crew, emulating Rihanna‘s famous under-breast armor.  The “Girls” creator/star debuted her new art on Instagram, her “first original piece by a female tattoo artist.”  Dunham called it “sacred and cool,” adding that artist, who she found in Oslo, did not chide her for copying the recording artist’s placement.

THE UNDERCOVER PREVIEW: FENTY BEAUTY

Launching this fall, Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty is already causing a stir.  The superstar posted sneak peeks from the upcoming collection on Instagram this week.  Most notably is the Hologram lipstick (pictured above, left), which debuted last fall on the Fenty x Puma Spring 2017 runway during Paris Fashion Week.  According to the post, “This holographic lip color is set to be the first product released under the long-awaited makeup label Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. This product will be available to purchase at Sephora stores this fall. Stay tuned for more.”  Fenty Beauty is a division of Kendo Brands, which is the parent company for Marc Jacobs Beauty, Bite Beauty, Kat Von D Beauty, and Ole Henriksen.  According to Chief Executive Officer, David Suliteanu, who spoke with WWD in April, “Fenty Beauty by Rihanna is a beauty rocket ship that will appeal to a huge and diverse global audience. We are aiming for the stars.”
