TRAVEL SKINCARE TIPS!

Sunday, November 19th, 2017

The holiday travel season is almost here, which means potentially bad news for our skin.  Enduring recirculating airplane air or forgoing your favorite facial serum will sadly provide our complexions with a rather rude awakening.  Dr. Michele J. Farber of Dr. Michele J. Farber dispenses some travel-friendly skincare tips to ensure that our skin will look glowing and gorgeous upon arrival.

  • Travel is a time when you want to keep your essentials – moisturizer, under eye cream — but back off on harsher products. It is ok to skip your retinol cream for a few days while you’re away to prevent dryness.
  • Pack some travel-sized containers of your face wash, moisturizer, and sunscreen. CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser is a great gentle wash for sensitive or acne-prone skin. Also pack a moisturizer, such as Neutrogena Hydroboost, in your carry-on and apply before take off as well as another application during your flight to combat dryness. Don’t forget your lips as well, keep an Aquaphor or lip balm to hydrate your lips on the plane!
  • Make sure you have a great sunscreen and moisturizer, especially if you are going someplace sunny for holidays. EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum rubs in nicely and can be used under makeup to make sure you don’t get sun damage or age spots while you’re enjoying vacation. (more…)

WINTER SKIN REMEDIES!

Tuesday, December 1st, 2015

Winter can be tough, not just on your social life, but also on your skin. The cold, dry air pulls more moisture from your skin, leading to itchy, scaly patches. Seasonal clothing can also be quite irritating for sensitive skin, and combined with hot showers, skin is prone to cracking and exacerbating conditions such as eczema, atopic dermatitis or rosacea. Below are several tips to help you combat winter skin from Dr. Rachel Nazarian of Schweiger Dermatology Group

1. Add a skincare product containing either ceramides or hyaluronic acid into your regimen. These ingredients help skin lock in more moisture and maintain a healthy barrier, decreasing the chance that cold winter air will break it down.
Product recommendations: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream and CeraVe Lotion

2. Use a humidifier in your office and bedroom to hydrate skin in the colder months. Humidifiers replace moisture into the air, which is vital during months where heaters and colder dry climate draws moisture from your skin. Using humidifiers can help mitigate dry air in the home, and assist in maintaining a healthier skin environment. For optimal safety, it’s important to remember to perform regular cleaning and maintenance of the humidifier, and to turn it off when you’re not home.

3. Apply Aquaphor or Amlactin onto heels every night then put on a pair of socks to lock in moisture while you sleep. Occlusion of topical products help them penetrate deeper into the skin. Use this to your advantage but applying creams and ointments on dry areas and then covering them before bed. Both Aquaphor, or Amlactin (if you want something a little lighter), help maintain smooth, moisturized skin and will prevent heels from cracking and splitting.  (more…)
