Cuban-born hairdresser, Oribe Canales has died at 62. The legendary stylist, known professionally as Oribe, touched the locks of countless Hollywood stars from Jennifer Lopez (above), Scarlett Johansson, Cher, and Kate Hudson, to Miley Cyrus, Penelope Cruz, and Meghan Markle.  He helped define the 1990s with the gravity-defying looks worn on the runway and on countless covers by Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, and Linda Evangelista.  His editorial affinity continued with subsequent generations of models, counting Gisele Bundchen, Bella Hadid, Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, and Emily Ratajkowski among his devotees.  The salon-owner developed an eponymous styling line in 2008, which quickly developed a cult-like following.

Posting on Instagram, Lopez shared, “When I was 16 I was fascinated with Vogue magazine I would ride on the train and look at all the images of the supermodels and I was obsessed with the hair!! When I saw an image I loved I would check who did it and it was always someone named Oribe… Wow… he’s amazing I would think!! Cut to years later I was making my first album. I started working with Benny Medina and he said to me we have to do an album cover shoot who do you want for hair and makeup… honestly I was so new to the industry I knew no one and remembered my time flipping thru those magazines on the 6 and said ummm Oribe and Kevin Aucoin… ”  For the next ten years she spent “every walking and working moment” with Oribe by her side.

STEAL FASHION’S LATEST HAIRSTYLE: THE DOWNTOWN AMERICANA!

Monday, June 4th, 2018

Alexander Wang’s Spring 2019 Ready-To-Wear Collection was very personal.  Inspired by the contributions of America’s immigrant population, the collection drew from a melting pot of cultures and was referred to as “Immigrant America.”  Superstar celebrity hairdresser, Guido Palau, styled top models, including Kaia Gerber, Behati Prinsloo, and Bella Hadid.

Starting with clean, damp hair and a messy part, sectioned large pieces of hair and dried the ends first with the Dyson Supsersonic hair dryer (“to flatten out any volume and remove frizz”), section by section.  To keep the roots lying flat, Palau blew them dry, while keeping the middle portion of the hair more natural.  Then he applied Redken No Blow Dry Cream at the bottom of the hair, “so the ends will be smooth while the hair still looks natural,” and NBD Cream at the roots, pulling through.  Beginning at the bottom and working up to to the top, Palau sprayed Spray Shine Flash 02 to the hair, section by section.  Celebrity tip:  “When using the products, make sure they are even all around the head to achieve the natural look.”  To complete the look, Palau returned with the Dyson Supersonic, blowing and brushing at the ends of the hair “to get the ends really straight and spiky for texture,” before applying the signature Alexander Wang bandana.
