There are so many acne and breakout busting treatments on the market. It’s common to get a feeling of product overload. Dr. Magarita Lolis, a Board-Certified Dermatologist in northern New Jersey, takes a holistic approach to treating skincare issues.  Here Dr. Lolis breaks down the list of common products to consider using for adult acne, with the benefits of each.

Go simple on cleanser. People who are prone to breakouts may use a cleanser with salicylic acid triggering excessive dryness which only increases oil production leading to a breakout cycle. Gentler products that are appealing to all skin types, such as Cetaphil or CeraVe, are great options because they don’t strip away moisture and soothe the face.

Exfoliate weekly. They key here is not to be too harsh!. You want to gently rub product into your face in circular motion then rinse with luke warm water. There are new products available with charcoal an ingredient which does a great job controlling oil in acne prone skin. People with sensitive skin should opt for an exfoliating mask, which is less irritating.

Soothe with serums. Acne prone skin needs moisture not oil. Serums that address acne without compromising moisture are a great bet. Serums penetrate the skin quickly making them a great option for nighttime healing as you sleep. (more…)

L’Oréal SA has completed negotiations to purchase three skincare lines from Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc.   The multinational pharmaceutical giant is selling off CeraVeAcneFree, and AMBI for $1.3 billion in cash. The three  product lines have annualized revenues of approximately of $168 million.

The CeraVe brand portfolio, founded in 2005, offers a range of advanced skincare products, including cleansers, moisturizers, sunscreens, healing ointments and a dedicated baby line. Developed with dermatologists, CeraVe is one of the fastest growing skincare brands in the U.S. with average growth over the past two years exceeding 20%.
The AcneFree brand portfolio offers a full range OTC cleansers and acne treatments in the U.S. introduced to the market in 1966.  The AMBI brand portfolio offers a range of skincare products formulated for the needs of multicultural consumers that includes creams, cleansers and moisturizers in the face and body category.  Both brands are distributed in drug stores, mass retailers and select online outlets

“The acquisition of CeraVe, AcneFree and AMBI strongly complement L’Oréal’s brand portfolio,” said Frédéric Rozé, President and CEO of L’Oréal USA. “These three brands, built on strong relationships with health professionals and widely distributed, will nearly double the revenue of our Active Cosmetics Division in the US and will help us satisfy the growing demand for active skincare at accessible prices.”

CeraVe, AcneFree and AMBI will become part of L’Oréal’s Active Cosmetics Division, which includes brands such as La Roche-Posay, Vichy and SkinCeuticals that are developed with and endorsed by health professionals – dermatologists, pediatricians and other physicians.
