Truth In Advertising
Waist Gang Society, maker of the famous waist-training corset, endorsed by Kim (left), Kourtney, and Khloé Kardashian, has settled a $5 million class-action lawsuit, according to an exclusive report in The Daily Mail.  Accused of false advertising, for its claims of fat-burning and weight-whiddling, the suit demanded renumeration as well as an injunction to block the company from misleading consumers.  However, according to the report, in exchange for reaching a financial agreement on Monday, all allegations against the maker will be dismissed.
According to the complaint filed by customer, Sara Hawes, in March, “These ‘waist trainers’ do redistribute fat to other portions of the user’s body, thereby creating the perception of a fit and trim waist, however, Defendant claims that the Products actually burn fat and control the user’s weight.”  Hates added, “This is completely false and misleading. The Products have absolutely no effect on fat loss.”

pickles-come_a201412ad29a8980With graduation parties and beach barbecues ahead, many of us may overindulge, resulting in a harrowing hangover.  While many still believe that hitting “the hair of the dog,” is a viable remedy, according in a Daily Mail survey of several top UK nutritionists, this is really a myth.  After all, alcohol is simply a diuretic.  According to  Shona Wilkinson, Head Nutritionist at NutriCentre, “Once in your blood your body needs to put its water supplies in your bloodstream to dilute it.  This creates an increase in blood volume and pressure.”  So how does one reverse its effects?

  • Water — “The control of hydration is the hands of electrolytes, which are minerals found in water,” Wilkinson says.  “For your best chance of beating that hangover, choose mineral rich water or add in some extra electrolytes that are designed for athletes and sports people,” adding, “The water will also help to flush out the toxins, speeding up the detoxification process.”
  • Fruit — Fruits such as pears and berries can combat a hangover. “There is an enzyme in pears that scientists are currently investigating for its ability to help us metabolize alcohol,” explains Wilkinson.  Dr Marilyn Glenville, a leading nutritionist and author of Natural Alternatives to Sugar, suggests, “Berries are rich in antioxidants and offer protection from free radicals, which are considered another cause of hangovers,” adding, “Bananas are a great source of potassium that holds onto water to decrease dehydration.”
  • Vitamin C —  While alcohol depletes Vitamin C from the body, it is easily replenished.  According to Sharon Morey, a nutritionist at Quest Vitamins, shares, “Vitamin C will help your body recover from the ingested toxins as it speeds up metabolism of alcohol by the liver.”
  • A Good Breakfast — Wilkinson believes that a good breakfast can replace the nutrients that the body needs to detoxify itself after drinking alcohol.  “Ideally choose eggs, because they are rich in cysteine, which is needed to break down acetaldehyde,” she says, but warns, “avoid bacon and sausages. The nitrites in them will only add to the toxic burden on your body.”
  • Pickle Juice — The probiotics and beneficial bacteria from pickles and sauerkraut sooth an upset stomach.  The vinegar in pickled vegetables is also a stimulant for the liver, “helping it detoxify and eliminate the alcohol,” according to Wilkinson.

Klum Intimates
Heidi Klum, is the face (and body) behind the successful lingerie line, Heidi Klum Intimates. The model, host, and businesswoman, 42, is never shy about sharing what makes her feel sexy.  Speaking to The Daily Mail, Klum, 42, expounded, “The days where lingerie was just for the bedroom are over,” adding, “Underpinnings should be an extension of your regular wardrobe. They should express who you are and what makes you feel your best.”
So what is in vogue these days?  Spring Ready-To-Wear collections are filled with lingerie-inspired fashions, from lacy slip dresses and bralette tops to sheer gowns with embroidered trims.  According to Klum, “Giving a peek of delicate lace or a glimpse of a colorful bra strap can be really chic.  It’s about finding a balance and showing just enough, but not too much.”  She also loves the peekaboo effect of a stocking and garter emerging from a skirt.
While Klum has never been shy about showing off her assets, the former Victoria’s Secret model is now taking a more demure approach.  “Instead of pushing your cleavage all the way up to your chin, I love the more natural look that is on trend in lingerie right now.”  She also does not advise women to drop their panties,”You don’t want to give anyone a show getting in and out of the car, so I say better be safe than sorry.”
