Cuban-born hairdresser, Oribe Canales has died at 62. The legendary stylist, known professionally as Oribe, touched the locks of countless Hollywood stars from Jennifer Lopez (above), Scarlett Johansson, Cher, and Kate Hudson, to Miley Cyrus, Penelope Cruz, and Meghan Markle.  He helped define the 1990s with the gravity-defying looks worn on the runway and on countless covers by Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, and Linda Evangelista.  His editorial affinity continued with subsequent generations of models, counting Gisele Bundchen, Bella Hadid, Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, and Emily Ratajkowski among his devotees.  The salon-owner developed an eponymous styling line in 2008, which quickly developed a cult-like following.

Posting on Instagram, Lopez shared, “When I was 16 I was fascinated with Vogue magazine I would ride on the train and look at all the images of the supermodels and I was obsessed with the hair!! When I saw an image I loved I would check who did it and it was always someone named Oribe… Wow… he’s amazing I would think!! Cut to years later I was making my first album. I started working with Benny Medina and he said to me we have to do an album cover shoot who do you want for hair and makeup… honestly I was so new to the industry I knew no one and remembered my time flipping thru those magazines on the 6 and said ummm Oribe and Kevin Aucoin… ”  For the next ten years she spent “every walking and working moment” with Oribe by her side.

Celebrity esthetician, Christine Chin, has a client list of celebrities and supermodels ranging from Hilary Swank, Rachel Weisz, and Ellen Pompeo, to Gisele Bundchen, Karolina Kurkova, and Erin Wasson. Dubbed “Mean Christine,” for her extremely thorough work and brutal honesty, Christine is an incredible wealth of knowledge and has unparalleled attention to detail.  To achieve beautiful and blemish free skin this summer, Chin shares a few of her favorite skin secrets.

  • Make sure you’re washing your face up to your hairline, especially if you’re not washing your hair daily. Hair products like dry shampoo or silicone-based anti-frizz products can clog pores along your hairline.
  • Change your pillowcase regularly (at least 1-2 times a week). Your face is essentially resting on a bed of hair product and sweat and other bacteria overnight. If you’re low on pillowcases, take an unused tee shirt and put it over the pillow.
  • Toner HAS to be a part of your skincare routine. It removes any residue or grime that your cleanser misses and is essential for those with oily or acne prone skin.

Kate Hudson shared images of herself on social media preparing for Monday night’s Met Gala, an event affectionately known as The Oscars of The East.  Covered in a golden facial mask (above), she captioned the image,”Off to a good start.” Similarly preparing for their closeups were gilded model, Bella Hadid, and fashion designer, Alexander Wang (below).  Benefits of the 24k gold mask are believed to be rapid cell renewal and rejuvenation, increased elasticity and cell metabolism, reduction in inflammation and breakdown of collagen, and improved circulation for an enhanced overall glow.

Hosted by Vogue editor, Anna WintourKaty Perry, Tom Brady, Gisele Bündchen, and Pharrell Williams, the gala celebrates the opening of  the Rei Kawakubo exhibit, “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.”  Officially called the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute benefit, the gala raises money for the Costume Institute, the only department of the Metropolitan Museum which must fund its own exhibitions.  The Costume Institute underwent a complete renovation in 2014 and became known as the Anna Wintour Costume Center.
