TREND ALERT: HAIR AND BEAUTY SECRETS FROM CANNES

Tuesday, May 15th, 2018

From luminescent faces to dramatic updos and ruler-straight middle parts, our friends at BeautyPress helps us take a look at the beauty and hair trends which have, thus far, ruled the red carpets at the 2018 Festival de Cannes:

FRESH FACES + ACCENTUATED EYES + PINK LIPS  Spotted On: Kristen Stewart, Romee Strijd and Lea Seydoux  Forget overdone matte makeup looks — fresh faces are very much back on trend if Cannes is anything to go by! Stars ranging from Kristen Stewart to Penelope Cruz to Cate Blanchett have all been sporting luminescent “naked” skin paired with accentuated eyes and shimmery pink lips.

To achieve the look, you need to start with a good skincare regime: cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize to remove dead skin cells and reveal your skin’s natural glow. Then opt for a natural-finish, light-coverage foundation as your base (you’ll want to avoid anything matte or full-coverage). Tap a few dots of concealer on problem spots to even out your skin tone, then fix the look with a light pressed powder that will diffuse shine without mattifying your skin.  To complete the look, choose either shimmery eye shadow paired with nude pink lips or opt for pink lipstick paired with a smoky eye.

STRONG MIDDLE PARTS   Spotted On: Penelope Cruz, Cate Blanchett, Chloe Sevigny and Georgia May Jagger   A strong middle part can seem intimidating to many who think that they only work for certain face shapes or hair lengths. Yet, since the festival’s opening day, stars have been taking to the carpet in droves to show us how this classic parting can suit pretty much everyone!  The middle part is also incredibly forgiving when you’ve not had time to touch up your roots as well. Celebrity stylists agree that showing your roots has actually been “in” for some seasons now and can modernize this classical look — as demonstrated by Chloe Sevigny and Georgia May Jagger at the Cannes Opening Ceremony.

L’Oréal Paris has named actress Aja Naomi King its newest spokeswoman. One of Hollywood’s top ingenues, the Yale graduate and  “How to Get Away with Murder” star attributes her love of beauty from a young age to her mom.  “Growing up, I watched my mom apply her makeup in the morning and wanted so badly to be part of that daily ritual with her,” she said.  “Seeing how much she enjoyed putting makeup on, including her go-to L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lipcolour, inspired me to love makeup as much as she did.”

In her newest role, King joins an esteemed roster of spokeswomen including Julianne Moore, Eva Longoria, Elle Fanning, and Camila Cabello, among others, in representing the brand.  She will serve as a presenter at L’Oréal Paris’ Women of Worth celebration on December 6, 2017.  “Makeup became my armor growing up,” King confessed. “It provided me with a sense of protection and gave me the power and confidence to face the world in the way I wanted. To now represent L’Oréal Paris is incredibly overwhelming. I am so excited to help others find and believe in the beauty of who they are because everyone deserves to know their own worth.”   (more…)
