Celebrity hairstylist, Michael Silva x Cricket Co. Tools styled Kate Bosworth’s hair for the red carpet of the Met Gala, creating a sculpted rose chignon with a cross part. Inspired by the Costume Institute’s exhibition, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, and Bosworth’s Oscar de la Renta gown and mantilla, Silva “immediately thought of the iconic sculpted hair that you see within Catholic sculptures and paintings.” Silva, whose clients also include Megan Markle, Chrissy Teigen, and Kate Upton, shares how he got the look:
Beginning with clean, wet hair, Silva applied gel and serum and detangled with the Cricket Co. Ultra Smooth Coconut Detangler Comb. After drying with a paddle brush, he created a center part, leaving out a small horizontal section in the front to create a cross-shaped part. Securing hair tightly in a pony with elastic, Silva sectioned into 4 pieces and smoothed with the Cricket Co. Centrix Ceramic Styling Iron. He next saturated locks with gel before wrapping the sections around the base to create a sculpted bun. Using a flatiron, Silva created “S” waves/finger-waves with the front section and applied R+Co Wall Street Strong Hold Gel. He sculpted the pieces flat and down the back towards the ear on each side with a rattail comb. Finally he used setting paper to to secure shape while drying, and applied a heavy coat of hair spray to set the style.
