CONFESSIONS OF A LASH ADDICT!

Sunday, March 12th, 2017

My name is Holly and I am a lash addict.  Since 2001, when drug manufacturer, Allergan, began putting a patented bimatoprost in its prescription glaucoma medicine, Lumigan, the world of lash enhancement exploded.  Its unintended side effect, dramatic lash growth, led to the 2008 FDA approval of Latisse.  I have been applying Lumigan (off label) to my lashes since 2004.  However, when the trend for larger-than-life lashes in everyday living emerged last year, I headed to a celebrity-anointed lash extension bar in West Hollywood.  I loved my new look and reveled in my newfound freedom from mascara!  Every two weeks, I diligently returned for a 45-minute “fill” appointment, investing a substantial amount of time and money in the process.  That is until last month, when a major exodus of employees occurred — including my beloved “lash guru.”  I had tried other technicians, but my lashes never endured as long as they did with my girl, so I waited, as nearly all of my beautiful synthetic mink lashes began to fall out, for her to find a new home.

I’m sorry to say, but mascara just cannot compare to a full set of lash extensions.  No way, no how.  So when I lost all of my falsies last night and my guru was still without a home, I panicked.   Fortunately, I remembered the two sets of magnetic lashes  I ordered at the end of the year from One Two Lash, after spotting from Allure’s Best Of Beauty Breakthroughs.  They were still unused, because the first pair I had ordered (Bold Lashes) was simply too dramatic; it reminded me of a burlesque dancer from the 1980’s.  But the second pair, Original Lashes, was absolutely perfect.  I just needed to watch the “how to” video several times to emulate the more-than-competent spokespeople, and give myself a good twenty minutes to get them properly aligned.  Once affixed, they lasted for the entire evening!
This morning, I returned to two coats of mascara (after all, its a lazy Sunday).  I will say that the tube of  Shu Uemura I picked up in Japan made a big difference.  But, clearly not enough for a lash addict like me … on Wednesday I have an appointment with a new lash guru.  I really need a fix!
