Pantone, provider of professional color language standards and digital solutions, announced PANTONE 18-3838, Ultra Violet, as the Pantone Color of the Year for 2018. A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us towards the future.

“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.” Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own. (more…)

Chameleon, Kylie Jenner, has once, again, morphed.  The cosmetics maven and reality star spun her platinum locks into gold.  “Rose gold,” specifically, is how she describes the pale shade of purply-pink on Instagram.  Perhaps inspired by the Pantone favorite, Rose Quartz, Jenner, 19, also channeled her inner-Rapunzel.  However, don’t get to attached to this new ‘do.  The super sleuths at US Weekly, revealed that Jenner’s tresses are, in fact, faux.  According to the publication, “She Snapchatted a photo on October 6 of her longtime mane man and noted wigmaker, Tokyo Stylez. After Jenner shared her posts, he also shared one of his own with a telling hint in the caption.”  #touchedbytokyo

Inspired by consumers’ continued search for reassurance and stability, fashion designers seek to answer a common call for calm through a Fall 2016 color palette that captures strength and dependability while remaining uplifting, complex and sophisticated. Satisfying a universal desire for tranquillity, strength and optimism, as demonstrated by the Pantone Color of the Year 2016, color directions continue to evolve toward an antidote to modern stresses for both designers and wearers.

For Fall 2016, designers were inspired by fine art – particularly abstract art, landscapes and graphic geometrics – yielding a 10-color palette that is led by the Blue family, conveying a message of calm and constancy. Along with anchoring earth tones, exuberant pops of vibrant colors also appear throughout, representing this season’s take on graphical elements and geometric shapes across the collections. Some designers are using clean lines and shapes against more fluid, abstract patterns for fall, while others have done the reverse. Both of these trends can be likened to the unexpectedly vivacious colors in the Fall 2016 palette, which act as playful but structured departures from the more typical fall shades.
