Revlon announced on Wednesday that Mette Towley, renowned dancer and performance artist, is joining the Revlon family as a new Global Brand Ambassador. Towley, known for her viral and dynamic solo in N.E.R.D’s “Lemon” video, is the latest to represent the brand’s new Live Boldly campaign launched earlier this year.

“As we evolve Revlon’s Live Boldly campaign, we want to continue to celebrate and champion strong, talented and inspirational women,” said Silvia Galfo, Global Brand President of Revlon. “Mette’s passion is present in everything she touches and she truly embodies the Revlon woman today. REVLON BRINGS MULTI-CULTURAL PRESTIGE WITH FLESH

In a effort to promote multicultural beauty, Revlon will launch Flesh, a new prestige makeup line, exclusively at Ulta Beauty.  Designed with Revlon Chief Creative Officer (and former Allure editor), Linda Wells, Flesh strives compete with full-range brands, Fenty and Make Up For Ever, and feature 40 shades of foundation.  Initially the line will debut 12 products on June 24th, including foundation, primer, highlighters, lipsticks, eye and cheek glosses, blushes, and shadow palettes. Coincidentally, this is the same number of products Fenty debuted last year.

Speaking with WWD, Wells shared, “It’s really focused on the idea of flesh being all flesh colors — we’re redefining the notion of what flesh color really is and having it be inclusive on every level.  Now, 40 foundations has almost become the industry standard, but it’s really broadening that conversation and proposition out to other products as well.”   Flesh will appear in 575 Ulta stores by the end of 2018.  According to Tara Simon, Vice President of Merchandising for Prestige at Ulta, “The brand itself is very fresh and really timely with being inclusive and diverse,” adding that Wells has “created vibrant pops of color and the terminology is smart and cool — it really doesn’t have an age, and it’s very inclusive.”

THE BUSINESS OF BEAUTY: REVLON LOSES $183.2 MILLION IN 2017!

Revlon Inc.’s 2017 year-end reports revealed that the beauty company sustained more than $183 million in losses, in great part due to its 2016 acquisition of Elizabeth Arden, Inc. for $870 million.  Yet, 2017 sales were up by 15.4 per cent.  The company has been beleaguered by restructuring costs and management shake-ups.

According to a report in WWD, Revlon said it “continued to accelerate the realization of synergies and cost reductions on the restructuring and integration of Elizabeth Arden, delivering $69 million of synergies and cost reductions for the year.”  Former CEO, Fabian Garcia stepped down from his position in January, serving fewer than two years on the job, handing over the company’s reins to board member, Paul Meister, as interim Chief.  Currently Revlon is on the hunt for its next Chief Executive Officer.
