Rowan Blanchard walked the red carpet at Saturday night’s LACMA Art + Film Gala.  Wearing an iridescent Gucci lurex dress with puffed sleeves and self-fabric bows, the actress and her hairstylist, Laurie Heaps, decided on a theatrical look.  “To complement her Gucci dress, we wanted to bring a little theater into the mix, while still keeping the hairstyle contemporary,” explains Heaps.  So how did Heaps create Blanchard’s modern “finger waves”?

Heaps began with an off-center part, curling 1-inch sections of hair with a 1-inch Curling Iron from Hot Tools.  “Before each section, I made sure to mist the hair with White Sands Liquid Texture Medium Styling Spray. It not only works as a heat protectant but it is also a setting spray. When paired with heat, the curl created keeps its shape until shampooed out which is key when molding and brushing hair into a finger wave style like this.” (more…)

Rowan Blanchard just debuted Spring’s hottest haircut trend: The Feather Bob. What exactly is a feather bob?  “The ends of a feather are slightly textured but it keeps a curved shape that still looks blunt,” explains her hairstylist Laurie Heaps. “This is exactly how I cut her new chin length style. Rowan is always changing and evolving and so with that, I see her differently and the longer bob didn’t reflect who she was anymore. She was ready for a change. Sharp edgy 90’s babe meets French girl chic.”

To begin, Laurie cut the base line in a soft “U” shape and then point cut it, taking the points of her scissors and chopping into the line to soften it. “Yet, I wanted to keep the ends looking blunt, not overly texturized, just like a feather.”  On dry hair she dived sections and prepped with  White Sands Liquid Texture Medium Styling Spray.  Smoothing each section with the GHD Classic 1″ Styler she was able to achieve a frizz-free, blunt look.  Then she created a deep side part ad sprinkled BioSilk’s Volumizing Therapy Texturizing Powder at the roots.  “It is best to work this in with your fingers for instant volume and texture,” she suggests.  Finally, she finished with a mild control hairspray and shine spray in one can, Redken’s Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist.

For their Fall 2018 collection, Rodarte designers Laura and Kate Mulleavy opted out of the standard runway show, instead releasing a lookbook featuring a star-studded roster of powerhouse women.  “We are thrilled to feature women who inspire us in our fall winter 2018 portrait series” – including Ava PhillipeChloe and Halle BaileyGia CoppolaGrimesKim GordonKirsten DunstMiranda JulyRowan Blanchard, and more shot by Autumn DeWilde.

In addition to the inspiring women in front of the camera, the designers once again tapped Morgan Taylor Lacquer — having partnered with the brand to create the manicures at their Paris Couture week debut in July 2017, and their last NYFW show in September 2016.  Grimes, pictured above, is wearing a personalized manicure created by lead artist, Kimmie Kyees, in Give Me Gold and Glitter & Gold.  Madisyn Ritland, shown below, is wearing Morgan Taylor Doo Wop & Yellow Glitter.
