Stunning Salma Hayek appeared with husband, François-Henri Pinault, at the Met’s first monograph show since 1983. Celebrity makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen was inspired by the Gala’s Rei Kawakubo/Comme Des Garçons theme. “We decided on a soft, beautiful look with a zen feel. We went with a fairly simple look that emphasized eyes, eyebrows and dewy skin,” he shared, as he provided the step-by-step to Hayek’s Gala Style!
VanLeeuwen prepped Hayek’s beautiful skin with A Complete Youth Preserve Serum (“I love the way it smells, the way it feels, and the way it made Salma’s skin absolutely come alive”), which he applied with his hands. He then slathered on A Complete Facial Youth Moisturizing Cream with a sponge, followed by A Complete Youth Preserve Eye Contouring Cream.
For Hayek’s striking eyes, VanLeeuwen applied Shiseido Shimmering Eye Cream Color in Fog to her lids, lining her upper and lower inner lash lines with Nuance Long Lasting Shadow Stick in Shimmered Bark. Then he swiped her lashes with Diorshow Mascara in Black. After applying a layer of foundation he used Nuance Flawless Finish Illuminating Blush & Bronzer Duo in Bronzed Rosewood on Salma’s skin, followed by blush on the apples of her cheeks. Finally, VanLeeuwen lined Salma’s lips with Makeup Forever High Precision Lip Pencil in Number 14 over Senna Lip Lacquer in Belladonna.

Actress/singer Demi Lovato is being chastised by fans for her avid endorsement of weight loss remedy, TeaMi Colon Cleanse Tea. Promoted by TeaMi Blends, the 30-Day Cleanse is intended “to purify the body from the inside out, cleansing the organs while simultaneously clearing the digestive tract of any toxins caused primarily by pollution, harsh chemicals and processed foods.” In a sponsored (translation: PAID) post, she shamelessly promotes the brand and even offers fans a discount.
Educated fans were quick to point out that the unregulated product contains the senna leaf, a FDA-approved, non-prescription laxative. According to WebMD, possible side effects include stomach discomfort, cramps, and diarrhea. It warns, “Senna is POSSIBLY UNSAFE when taken by mouth long-term or in high doses. Don’t use senna for more than two weeks.” The laxative is also under scrutiny by The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, the American Herbal Products Association, and the American Cancer Society.
Tuesday night Jennifer Aniston attended the premiere of “Cake” at the Toronto Film Festival. We were intrigued by the actress’s fresh-faced look, created by celebrity makeup artist, Angela Levin, and knew that we must learn how to steal that style. After prepping Aniston’s skin with AVEENO’s Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrub and Daily Moisturizer SPF 15, Levin applied a light coat of foundation by CHANEL Perfection Lumière Velvet. Using two shades, one darker (60 Beige) on the neck and outer areas of her face, and another lighter (50 Beige) towards the center, “it makes the eye area, lips and cheeks slightly brighter,” explains Levin. She then used CHANEL Les Beiges in N50 as a matte bronzer on Aniston’s forehead, chin and cheek. For blush, Levin combined CHANEL Le Blush Créme in Chamade with Make Up Forever Second Skin Cream Blush 335, and gently applied with her fingers. To highlight Aniston’s beautiful blue eyes, Levin used a combination of Revlon Colorstay Shadowlinks in Chocolate and Melon and Edward Bess Prismette Eye Shadow Quad in Cosmic Bliss, noticeably without any liner. Filling in brows eye brows with Senna Sketch-A-Brow pencil in light taupe, Levin adds, “I always finish the eyes with the one and only Inimitable Intense CHANEL mascara in black.”
