Chloe Moretz for SK-II Bare Skin Project (PRNewsfoto/SK-II)

In a world where nearly half of all women believe they must wear makeup to feel beautiful and confident, prestige skincare brand SK-II is making a bold affirmation to the beauty of bare skin in its latest campaign, the #BareSkinProject. The #BareSkinProject’s first campaign features the brand’s six celebrity muses — Chloe MoretzChun Xia, Kasumi Arimura, Mayu Matsuoka, Ni Ni and Tang Wei — revealing their bare skin with the help of SK-II’s signature Facial Treatment Essence.  To offer the most authentic vision of “bare skin beauty,” all six celebrities were shot without makeup and retouching by photographers Christopher Anderson, Alessandra Sanguinetti and Jim Goldberg.

“It’s still unconventional to see female celebrities photographed bare skin and through the #BareSkinProject, we hope to provide a different point of view,” said Sandeep Seth, CEO, Global SK-II.  “We are proud to partner with six brave personalities who share the same goal. We hope their authentic journeys with Facial Treatment Essence will inspire women all over the world to embrace their natural bare skin beauty.

As part of the campaign, SK-II will also launch short films that intimately document each celebrity’s personal journey with Magnum Photos.  “It was so refreshing to hear about a campaign that aims to embrace women’s natural beauty and spark a movement of authenticity and confidence,” said actress Chloe Moretz.  “I knew that this was a perfect fit for me and what I represent.”  Chloe’s film will launch on June 29th on YouTube and

 Amy Schumer
Actress/producer, Amy Schumer, is sharing a softer, sexier side of herself on the cover of Vogue.  Shot by photographer, Annie Leibovitz, Schumer was given a “makeunder” by celebrity makeup artist, Gucci Westman (who typically works with friends Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon, and Cameron Diaz).  This cleaner, fresher face is a stark contrast to Schumer’s signature smoky-eyed look.  Westman posted on Instagram, “I adored doing Amy’s make-up for the July cover – of course she was making us laugh the whole time.”  She continued by sharing her tricks of the trade, “For her look I used a mix of a matte grey and a matte brown shade to make Amy’s blue eyes pop even more, a touch of grey liner in lower lashes, mascara on top and bottom lashes.  She has amazing brows, just filled in making sure they looked polished and refined.  Subtle contour layered w a rose colored blush, and a win colored stain on lips.”  Westman, former Artistic Director to Revlon and Lancôme, is partnered with Japanese cult skincare brand, SK-II.  She recently announced an upcoming collaboration with husband, David Neville (former CEO of Rag & Bone), for her own beauty line.

 Blanchett SKII
  • Best Actress nominee and SK-II Global Ambassador, Cate Blanchett, made a stunning appearance on the red carpet Sunday night, showcasing her radiant beauty and porcelain skin. Her secret skincare weapon is SK-II Facial Treatment Essence. “For many years I have spoken about the profound effect that this ‘miracle water’ has had on my skin,” she said. “Having used SK-II Facial Treatment Essence for 15 years I can confidently say it has not only transformed my complexion, but quite possibly changed the destiny of my skin as well”

Makeup artist, Jeanine Lobell, prepped Blanchett’s skin with SK-II’s R.N.A. Power Radical New Age Essence and R.N.A. Power Radical New Age Cream, to help minimize pores, plump skin, and provide deep hydration, firming, smoothing, and tightening skin.“The new R.N.A. Power line instantly refreshed and hydrated Cate’s skin, creating a beautiful, dewy glow,” said Lobell. “Having a good base for makeup application is the key to a beautiful final makeup look.”

To complement Blanchett’s stunning seafoam gown, Lobell chose soft, pastel makeup tones, from Giorgio Armani Beauty, to highlight her radiant skin.

  • She applied a pink glow to the apples of Cate’s cheeks, using Giorgio Armani Cheek Fabric blush in #506.
  • For a plum smoky eye, Lobell began with Eyes to Kill Solo in #15 all over the lid and into the crease. Then she dampened a thin flat-edged brush before applying Eyes to Kill Solo in #5, as a liner, creating a blurred, feathered look — rather than a harsh, solid line.  Finally she layered Eye Tint in #10 on Blanchett’s lash line, for the smoldering eye effect.
  • For Blanchett’s flushed lips, Lobell applied Giorgio Armani Smooth Silk Lip Pencil in #1 all over, ensuring a nice and even lip throughout the evening.  Layering a pinky nude shade of Rouge d’Armani Lipstick, she completed the red carpet look.
